Local Bocal February 2022

Dear Double Reeders,

Thanks to those who made suggestions about activities we could host this year. As expected, the Big Blow sessions are very popular, as is the St John’s Concert.

We have made some plans for 2022 starting with the famous and traditional Quiznic.  Some Covid restrictions have been lifted so we are going ahead. This will be held at Josie and Tom Hawkes’ place on NEXT Saturday (not so traditional) 5th March from 2:30-5:30.

Bookings are essential This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

This is our major fund-raising event of the year and is always great fun. Please make your bookings if you have been vaccinated, and BE THERE!! There will be Performance Practice sessions for senior bassoon and oboe students with Matthew Kneale(Arcadia Wind Quintet and Ensemble Françaix) and an oboe tutor (in negotiation). Please contact me for further details.

There will be a Big Blow on March 30th at Marryatville from 7-930 so put that in your diary and RSVP.

The St John’s Concert this year will have the theme of Bohemian Music (Dvorak, Janacek, Reicha,Smetana, Martinu et al) and we are hoping to stage it on 7th August.

We are also looking to update our mailing list. If you know of any students or teachers, please check that they are on our list and let us know if they would like to be added. It will ensure they receive the most up-to-date news of all things Double Reed.

Please consider joining the national society ADRS which will give you access to the Journal “ReedingMatter” produced right here in SA as well as national and international news and opportunities. Go to the website https://www.adrs.org.au/ and click “join us”. As an incentive to join, the ADRS Committee has made 2022 membership free, so if you’ve been meaning to, sign up NOW. This will also entitle you to discounts on all ADRSSA activities throughout the year.

We would love to hear what you have been doing or are preparing for, Double Reed-wise. Drop us a line, especially if you wish to publicise events that will be interesting for the ADRSSA Community

Best wishes,
