At the age of just 16, Peter joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (then NZBC)’s bassoon section, rising through the ranks to become Principal, followed by appointments to Principal positions in the UK, South Africa, and Germany. In 1979, he was appointed Principal Bassoon with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, later becoming Senior Lecturer in Bassoon at the Queensland Conservatorium.<br Peter Musson Memorial Prize, Open Bassoon Section

| The 2023 ADRS National Competition will be held in Brisbane on August 20th with the $1,000 Peter Musson Memorial Prize to be awarded for the most outstanding performance on bassoon in the Open Section.
Peter Musson passed away last year after a lifetime as a musician and a truly international career. At the age of just 16, Peter joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (then NZBC)’s bassoon section, rising through the ranks to become Principal, followed by appointments to Principal positions in the UK, South Africa, and Germany. In 1979, he was appointed Principal Bassoon with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, later becoming Senior Lecturer in Bassoon at the Queensland Conservatorium.
| Peter always sought to encourage young bassoonists and his former students have gained professional playing and teaching positions around the world.

The National Competition for 2023 is being held in Brisbane on the 20th of August 2023. Information is available on the ADRS Website as well as the registration form.
The competition would not be possible if not for our wonderful sponsors, as well as the tireless work put in by the QLD Committee who look forward to seeing competitors and others on the day.
Trade tables will be at the venue where you can check out all things Double Reed and talk to vendors about instruments, reeds and much more so even if you are not competing come along to Qld Conservatorium, listen to beautiful music, and see what is on offer.
